Kelsey Barbee

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and have been working in mental health for 10+ years. Throughout my career, I have provided therapy to various age groups with a broad spectrum of diagnoses. I have practiced individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults. I have experience providing family therapy, couples therapy, groups, and parenting skills. Having training and knowledge in each of these areas often proves to be beneficial when working with most people.

I am currently only offering virtual sessions, working primarily with adults in individual therapy. If you have a teenager 16+ that you feel may be a good fit, contact below to discuss.

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. I am trained in Polyvagal Theory and believe in the importance of somatic practices for deep healing. I am currently undergoing a training in Internal Family Systems and am working towards a certification as a Sacred Feminine Breathwork Facilitator through Sacred Breath Academy (2024).

Therapy Services

Therapeutic Approach: I always take a person centered approach to therapy. This means that I recognize that each person I meet with has their own set of unique needs for therapy, including: what the therapeutic relationship looks like, what therapy model best fits their personality and goals, structure of the therapy session, and how often sessions occur. A person centered approach is collaborative in goal setting, identifying needs, and creating a therapeutic framework for our sessions.

Therapeutic Ideology: Our mental health is often a reflection of experiences that we have had throughout our lifetime. I feel that it is important to understand and reflect on how past experiences have impacted our belief system, created our narratives, and impact how we show up in the world today. We each have a unique blueprint that makes up who we are and it is often covered up by external expectations, life experiences, and various types of traumas. Therapy is an amazing tool that allows us to engage in self-reflection, gain insights, shed undesired beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve us, and improve our relationship with ourselves and others.

Therapeutic Models: My practice is often a combination of modern psychoanalytic techniques, narrative, CBT, body awareness practices, and IFS. Examples of this may look like exploring belief systems, processing and integrating past trauma, improving your relationship with emotions, self-discovery, engaging in “parts” work, deepening the connection with your body, or inner child work. Some examples of goals may be gaining better insight of self, improving self-worth, increased emotional regulation, improved relationships with self or others, and improved communication skills.

What To Expect: I take a casual and direct approach to therapy, prioritizing connection and comfort, while encouraging growth. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors for successful therapy and ensure that my clients always feel connected, supported, safe, and comfortable. I am compassionately direct with my clients when I notice barriers in therapy and I always encourage my clients to be the same with me, if they feel a barrier is present in the therapeutic process. Collaboration is key, as you hold the inner compass and my job is to hold the space to explore it.

“I love this work, because I deeply believe we are all capable of change.

Not change in a sense that something is wrong with us.

Change in the sense that life is in a constant state of flow and when we are out of alignment with the flow of our life, it affects our mental health. We must learn to safely shed old behaviors, beliefs, and emotions to move into alignment with who we are today.
